Before joining Bison solicitors, Kate worked as an in-house lawyer within local government with a professional client base consisting of Senior Management and Service Directors, Social Workers and Approved Mental Health Practitioners.
Kate has specialised in both family law and community care law with a strong focus on litigation within the County Courts and Court of Protection. Kate also has extensive experience in Public Law, particularly Judicial Review challenges against the local authority (pre-action and proceedings) and Mental Health.
Kate has a very competent knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Children Act 1989 and community care law. She also has the advantage of having a good working knowledge of the practice and procedure of the local authority’s social care departments particularly in relation to the statutory duties of the local authority in relation to decision-making and provision of service.
Kate is able to advise in situations where a person (‘P’) is living under conditions which amount to a deprivation of their liberty and can represent P to challenge a standard authorisation granted by a Supervisory Body through the Court of Protection. Kate is also able to assist in individual applications to the Court of Protection in relation to welfare decisions or to apply to appoint a Deputy for Finance and Property or Welfare.
